Toyota Motors has been spied testing what looks like a new generation version of the Innova, the brand's premium MPV offering. While camouflage ensures that the upcoming vehicle is garbed well in the spy shots, it is clearly a similar-looking vehicle to Toyota's MPV offering. Despite facelifts, the current generation Toyota Innova Crysta has been around in India for quite a few years and is in dire need of an overhaul. Based on information released internationally, the upcoming Toyota Innova may get new underpinnings and significant mechanical and powertrain changes. Read on for more information and speculation on the upcoming, new generation 2023 Toyota Innova. All-New Features While not a lot has been revealed in terms of information regarding the Toyota Innova, the spied test vehicle has all the makings and possibilities of a new generation one. Featured are iconic Innova elements such as a rear quarter window that sits ahead of the C-pillar, giving the premium MPV a quintessential hatchback-style body swoop and the vehicle's signature upright departure angle is also present. The vehicle spied also features a similar wheelbase length. The test vehicle seems to be running on large chrome alloy rims and has been seen with LED taillights. All-New Underpinnings The popular Toyota Innova Crysta present in the market currently uses Toyota's IMV platform and an RWD train. This is unlike its dedicated SUV offerings such as the Fortuner and Hilux that get 4WD instead. However, the SUVs do get the same IMV platform. For the new generation Innova, speculation suggests that Toyota is slated to change the underpinnings entirely to a new TNGA architecture that has been better rated for comfort. Concerning powertrain options, information suggests that Toyota has already confirmed hybrid powertrains internationally which will be featuring in the likes of the new-generation Toyota Fortuner. It is possible then that the Innova too will feature electrification in the form of a mild hybrid or strong hybrid powertrain. To that end, the new Innova could get a naturally-aspirated lower petrol variant and a higher petrol hybrid, while completely removing the diesel powertrain from the line-up. An All-New Platform Innova? While currently a majority of the information available is spied speculation, the new Innova is likely going to be an all-new offering from Toyota. It is likely that if that is the case, a launch may be expected from Toyota in late-2022, with the car hitting showrooms in early 2023. More information about the next generation Toyota Innova may be revealed in the coming days.
