Hyundai i20 Line Variant & Feature Updates Incoming

The premium hatchback space in India is rather competitive this year. With the introduction of the new Baleno and the upcoming automatic variant of the Tata Altroz, Hyundai is feeling the pressure and has decided to make some updates to its i20 lineup. Among these updates, the automaker will be removing a few variants from the lineup, making changes to others, and adding and removing certain features as well. Read on for more information on the upcoming updates to the Hyundai i20 lineup.

Hyundai i20 Variants Revamp

First off, Hyundai plans to remove a few variants from the lineup of trims and add new ones in its place to the Hyundai i20. By variants, this just means changes to the gearbox and engine combinations across the trims, as Hyundai offers a lot of different combinations and variation combinations for the i20. As per information, the i20's mid-spec Magna variant's 1.0-litre turbo petrol now gets a seven-speed DCT automatic gearbox, while the variant's iMT gearbox will be phased out.

On the other hand, the top-end Asta (O) variant will be getting a CVT with its 1.2-litre petrol mill as well. Previously there was only a manual transmission on offer for this variant.

While under the top variant, the regular Asta variant will be paired with an iMT gearbox for both the 1.2 petrol mill and 1.0-litre turbo petrol unit's automatic variants. The 1.2-litre Asta's CVT and the 1.0-litre turbo Asta's DCT will be removed.

Hyundai i20 Features Revamp

Hyundai has planned to introduce some features in lower variants while phasing out others. Based on the information, the lower i20 Sportz will be getting new features from its higher trims, such as automatic climate controls and cruise control. These features were previously limited to top-line trims.

On the other hand, the top-of-the-line Asta variant will be getting a sunroof across its variants as standard, which was previously an option in only the Asta trim with a turbo-petrol iMT transmission unit. It is possible that the top-end Asta variant may be losing on a few features as well. Information suggests that the top-end variant may lose its 10.25-inch infotainment screen for a smaller one, as well as the removal of connected car tech. The top-end Asta (O) on the other hand may get some voice command options.

Verdict: Keeping Up with Competition

These new variants refresh will enable the Hyundai i20 to keep up with the competition in the premium hatchback segment. Expect major price changes with the lower variants capitalising on their value-for-money aspect and higher variants possibly getting cheaper. Even the base Magna will be getting new cosmetics such as gunmetal coloured wheel covers over the current silver ones. Currently, the Hyundai i20 is priced starting at ₹6.98 lakhs (Ex-Showroom), going up to ₹11.47 lakhs (Ex-Showroom).
