Last year on 11th October 2021, MG launched its new 5-seater compact SUV, the MG Astor. It’s the younger sibling of the MG Hector and it competes against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and Nissan Kicks. MG had first unveiled its compact SUV, the MG Astor with an introductory price ranging from ₹9.78 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) to ₹16.78 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) back in October 2021. In January 2022, MG Astor’s price was hiked and now it starts from ₹9.98 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) to ₹17.72 lakhs (Ex-Showroom). The MG Astor is offered in five trims: Style, Super, Smart, Sharp, and Savvy. Hopping onto the MG Astor review.
What is the MG Astor’s exterior like?
Coming to the MG Astor exterior, the MG Astor has MG’s ‘celestial’ chrome grille accompanied by a stylish pair of full LED Hawkeye headlamps. The Astor also gets chrome door handles, a front bumper with black accents, and fog lamps. The rear bumper comes with chrome inserts around fake dual-exhaust tips, and black cladding running around the car. The base variant runs on 16-inch rims while the rest of the variants get 17-inch rims, and front and rear disc brakes are standard. As far as the looks are concerned, the MG Astor has a more of a crossover appearance rather than a compact SUV, perhaps thanks to an understated European styling. Talking about the Astor review, the MG Astor dimensions measure 4323mm in length, 1809mm in width, 1650mm in height, and 2585mm in wheelbase.
Are interiors as striking as exteriors?
Coming to the cabin, the MG Astor interior is loaded with features and tech. It has AI (Artificial Intelligence) which is available in ‘Smart’, ‘Sharp’, and ‘Savvy’ variants. ‘Savvy’ is equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) as standard. However, the lower variants like ‘Style’, and ‘Super’ have fabric upholstery whereas the rest of the variants get leather upholstery. MG Astor features include - an integrated (10.1inch) touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and four speakers as standard. The dual-tone, well laid-out cockpit, and materials used by MG feel upmarket, and a good amount of light enters the cabin via the big panoramic sunroof.
What’s under the hood of the MG Astor?
Coming to MG Astor engine specifications, it has two petrol engines on offer. The MG Astor gets a 220 Turbo 1.3-litre, four-cylinder which produces 140bhp at 5600rpm & 220Nm torque at 3600rpm, and the 1.5-litre VTi-TECH produces 108bhp at 6000rpm & 144Nm torque at 4400rpm.
Both the engines have fuel capacities of 45 litres and 48 litres, respectively.
Astor is offered with three transmissions: five-speed manual transmission and six-speed CVT. It also gets a six-speed torque converter in automatic transmission exclusive only to the 1.3-litre Turbo engine.
